Our Fantasy RV Tour group leaves Te Anau on a comfortable tour coach headed for a boat cruise the renowned Milford Sound.
The first two hours of our day is brilliant sunshine. Our driver gives us the opportunity to stretch our legs at a beautiful field and then we take a photo op at gorgeous Mirror Lake. I spy this crazy Kea bird. It is the world’s only alpine parrot. New Zealand is full of strange creatures found only on this
lovely island.
We arrive at Milford Sound and our lovely sunshine vanishes behind gray clouds. Rain falls as we load onto the boat and the gray clouds descend to the water giving our tour a foggy shroud. We begin eating a delicious buffet lunch as we pull from the dock. We hope for sun after we eat. Nope, that didn’t happen.
Spectacular waterfalls tumble from thousands of feet above because of the rain. This water cascades from the sheer cliffs lining the edges of Milford Sound. The beauty of this wild and untamed wilderness in New Zealand’s ever changing landscape astounds me.
Our Fantasy tour group sits inside and visits on our cruise. It gives us the opportunity to be better acquainted. We have been together for 10 days and are becoming a little family of foreign travelers here on South Island.
After an exhausting day in the cruise, many of us take the time to take a nice nap. Tonight a few have decided to cook dinner in the ice cap kitchen at the RV Park. Me, I am going to spend the evening reflecting on the day’s beautiful drive and the Milford Sound cruise, for tomorrow is another day.
