Our second day was full of adventure. We rode the TSS Earnslaw, a coal fired steam ship that took us to Walter Peak Farm. This is the 100th anniversary of the ship and it’s still in great shape. The men love going up in the wheelhouse and then down into the engine area where a poor guy is shoveling the coal.

When we arrived at the farm, we walked over to feed the sheep. After seeing millions of sheep in fields every day, it’s a real treat to get up close and touch them. Then the sheep dog did his demo of running to the back of the huge lot and rounding up the sheep. He does it with a steely glare and the sheep are terrified of him.

At the barn, we watched a sheep being shorn, going from a huge ball of hair down to being naked. Our time isn’t over yet! Next door at the ranch house, we had another amazing buffet of lamb, pork ribs and steak cooked over a BBQ. Gee, we all said last night we weren’t going to eat for a couple of days. The ride back to town is always fun because we have a sing along. They pass out songbooks and have a piano player lead us thru many of our old favorites.

Now, back in Queenstown, three of our group, Jim included, did the paraglide off the peak. This is a definite adrenalin thrill and they all couldn’t stop talking about it. Seven of us, me included, did the zip line down Bob’s Peak. They say this zip is the world’s steepest.   I disagree because I did the one in South Africa that seemed steeper to me. It is loads of fun in here in New Zealand.  Tomorrow, bungee jumping anyone?
