Our group leaves Queenstown this morning for the opportunity to watch bungee jumping at Kawarau Gorge. We will stay in the resort community of Wanaka. The town sets a flat valley on the edge of Wanaka Lake. Tall emerald green mountains rise from the valley and surround the town. I can understand why New Zealanders flock here for vacation. I am ready to watch those intrepid souls leap to their destiny.
We stands beside the deep Kawarau George. We watch a man as an attendant attaches cords to his legs. Then, we hear him propose to the woman with him. Wow! My heart is in my throat for two reasons. One, will she accept his proposal, the other is the thrill of actually seeing him leap from the bridge and fall over a 100 feet toward the river below. He swings head down, for some time. It seems like an eternity to me.
The provocative question in my mind is not how long he swings. Will she accept the proposal? Is this another day in this land of enchantment or what? Oh, tomorrow we head for the Tasman Sea. I understand more excitement, and beauty waits!
