Grafton, Moree, Lightening Ridge, Warrumbungle, Black Heath are dots on my map. We pass thru these dots on our way to the bustling city of Sydney. Leaving the coast and heading inland to Queensland’s “outback” as the Aussies say is a complete change of scenery. The coast drops away to a dry arid area. At Grafton we visited the Tropical Fruit World and then made our way to the mining town of Lightning Ridge. This is a primitive outback town with tumble down shacks, but the opals. Gosh! The opals are big and beautiful, well worth the purchase. Fantasy provides another great experience for the group.
After Lightening Ridge we head to Warrumbungle NP, home of hundreds of kangaroos. They hop here, and there. It is a LOL day watching them all about the campground. Out came the video camera and I shot a few crazy shot during the evening. After the kangaroos, the tour headed to Black Heath and Australia’s Blue Mountains for a tram ride across the hills. The scenery was unbelievable and the walk through the forest a stroll in primeval history without dinosaurs.
Here I am in Sydney preparing to go to the true Australian Outback. Fantasy has motor caravans (RVs) waiting for us at Alice Springs. I am really looking forward to seeing Ayers Rock or Uluru as the natives call it. But first, Sydney has been an outstanding place to visit from the Opera House, our harbor lunch cruise and for those of us who want to do everything we can in our lifetime, a walk on the famous “Sydney Bridge”. Now that was breathtaking in many ways.
