Today on an excursion to the countryside,  our Fantasy group steams across beautiful Lake Wakatipu aboard the vintage TSS Earnslaw.     We learn from the crew that this ship was built in  1912 and is the last coal burning passenger steam ship in the southern hemisphere.

We glide over the deep blue lake waters to Walter Peak Sheep farm.  People are a buzz about the beautiful fall colors lining the banks of the Lake.  I, myself, can’t imagine a prettier or more picturesque spot for lunch… at the farm…on the waterfront!

After filling our tummies with food, we go to the sheep pens. Many feed the sheep, and then the amazing part begins.  A sheep dog runs up the hillside to round-up a small group of sheep, man with a whistle gives tweets and the dog responds to the sound.   We are amazed as the small black and white shepherd dog controls the sheep with a steely-eyed glare and nips at the sheep’s backside to keep them headed in the correct direction.   The dogs are trained not to bark when herding sheep.
New Zealand continues to live up to my expectations and more.  Another wonderful day!
